Polónia – Direitos da comunidade LGBT em risco

A Amnistia Internacional está preocupada com o facto de alguns políticos na Polónia continuarem a proferir abertamente declarações homofóbicas e a encorajar a violência contra a comunidade LGBT (comunidade de lésbicas, gays, bisexuais e trangéneros). Além disso, a organização está preocupada uma vez que o Governo falhou no seu papel de proteger o direito destes cidadãos se reunirem pacificamente sem discriminação.
Durante o ano de 2005 uma série de eventos planeados pela comunidade LGBT na Polónia foram proibidos pelas autoridades. Em 2005 e 2006 houve relatos de incidentes, nos quais manifestantes da comunidade LGBT e outros activistas foram alvo de ataque por contra-manifestantes e, em algumas ocasiões, a falha da polícia em assegurar o direito de se reunirem pacificamente.
A Amnistia Internacional apela às autoridades da Letónia para que assegurem que os agentes do Estado deixem de fazer declarações homofóbicas; condenem publicamente os ataques ou ameaças contra a comunidade LGBT, deixando claro que tal violência é um uma ofensa criminal, será julgada como tal e não será tolerada e assegurar que o direito de se reunirem pacificamente sem discriminação é garantido à comunidade LGBT na Polónia.

Dear Prime Minister,
Amnesty International is concerned that political figures in Poland continue to make openly homophobic statements and to encourage violence against the LGBT community. Furthermore, the organization is concerned that the government has failed to protect the rights of LGBT persons to peaceful assembly and association. During 2005 several planned events by the LGBT community in Poland were banned by the authorities. In 2005 and 2006 there were reports of incidents in which demonstrators from the LGBT community and other activists were attacked by counter-demonstrators and, on some occasions, of the police failing to ensure that they are able to exercise their right to peaceful assembly.
Therefore we would like to call on your excellency to take all necessaries actions in order to:
Ensure that public officials refrain from making any homophobic statements targeting the LGBT community;
Publicly condemn attacks, threats of attacks and other harassment of LGBT people, making clear that such violence is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated;
Ensure that members of the LGBT community in Poland are not denied their right to assembly;
